Edith A. Jenkins was born in San Francisco in 1913 and comes form a family of early German-Jewish settlers. From 1934 to 1956 she was involved variously in the student movement, the peace movement, women’s peace organizations, and the Old Left. She taught mainly at Merritt College in Oakland and is married to David Jenkins, a labor activist and educator. They have four children and seven grandchildren.
