City Lights celebrates Solid Objects Press with readings by Elizabeth Robinson, Rodrigo Toscano, and Laura Mullen
SOLID OBJECTS is an independent publisher of fine fiction, poetry, drama, and nonfiction. It was founded in 2010 and is based in New York City. It’s editors are Lisa Lubasch and Max Winter.
Elizabeth Robinson is the author of 16 books, most recently Rumor from Free Verse Editions/Parlor Press. She has been the winner of the National Poetry Series for Pure Descent (Sun & Moon), and the Fence Modern Poets Prize for Apprehend. Robinson’s mixed genre meditation, On Ghosts, was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Award in Poetry. She was a co-editor, with Colleen Lookingbill, of EtherDome Chapbooks, with Beth Anderson, Susanne Dyckman, and Laura Sims, of Instance Press and also an editor of the literary periodicals 26 and Pallasksch. Robinson is currently an associate editor of Tupelo Online Quarterly. She has taught at the University of San Francisco, the University of Colorado, Naropa University, and was a visiting professor at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop.
Rodrigo Toscano is a poet and dialogist based in New Orleans. He is the author of eleven books of poetry. His most recent books are The Cut Point (Counterpath, 2023), and The Charm & The Dread (Fence Books, 2022). His previous books include In Range, Explosion Rocks Springfield, Deck of Deeds, Collapsible Poetics Theater (a National Poetry Series selection), To Leveling Swerve, Platform, Partisans, and The Disparities. His poetry has appeared in over 20 anthologies, including Best American Poetry, Best American Experimental Poetry (BAX), Voices Without Borders, Diasporic Avant Gardes, Imagined Theatres, In the Criminal’s Cabinet, and Earth Bound. Toscano has received a New York State Fellowship in Poetry. He won the Edwin Markham 2019 prize for poetry. His works have been translated into French, Dutch, Italian, German, Portuguese, Norwegian and Catalan.
Laura Mullen is the author of eight books and is the W.R. Kenan Jr. Chair of Humanities in Literature and Creative Writing. A National Endowment for the Arts and MacDowell Fellow, she writes poetry and experimental prose, as well as hybrid texts playing with genre. She also works with video and sound, explores performance, publishes translations, and collaborates with artists, composers, and musicians. Her poetry has been anthologized in collections from Norton, Wesleyan, and elsewhere. Her published works include The Surface, Complicated Grief, Enduring Freedom, Murmer, Subject, and Tales of Horror, amongst others.
